Anyone that knows me, knows I am an avid Google Supporter and am always one of the first to know about any cool new services the company releases. My friends often joke and ask whether I am an undercover Google Salesman, to which the answer is always the same “No, but i wish i was”.
I am using pretty much every service that Google has available in one way or another. Gmail for my personal mail, Hosted Gmail for our business mail, Writely (since before it was acquired by Google) for keeping track of brainstorms, collaborating with clients, Picasa and Picasas Web Albums to keep my photos organized and online, Spreadsheets for keeping track of all kinds of data, Sitemaps to manage our various sites we develop and market, Video to upload the occasional clip i want to share with friends, Calendar to keep track of my personal agenda and work schedule - the list goes on.
Although i love using all of these great services and appreciate the single sign on ability, one thing that bugs me with all of them, is that they are all separate applications that i need to access via different windows in my browser. What i would love to see in the (hopefully) near future, would a be Unified Google, where all of my different services were tied into one application interface.
Once logged into myGoogle.com for example, i would have the option to set which services i would like to see in the site, etc. Then once i have chosen the various services i would like included, they would be laid out in a series of tabs (perhaps), where without opening a new window, i could manage my documents, movies, photos, spreadsheets, sitemaps, etc. Similar to the various CRM packages like Sugar or Tiger, i would have instant access to all of these services. Since its only really a new navigation of sorts, the main content could still maintain their same layout, perhaps with a few changes. At the same time, i could have access to my Google Talk, with floating chat windows that stay in the forefront irrespective of which of the different services i am using.
Whether this is already in Googles “Master Plan” or not, who knows - but it would definitely be something that would make using all these different services a lot more streamlined.
